Emission-free mobility with hydrogen

On 25 September 2019, Alpiq's Gösgen hydroelectric power station formed the epicentre of zero-emission logistics for one day: Hydrospider AG, in which Alpiq holds a 45% stake, and Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility (HHM) presented a business model based on green hydrogen that is unparalleled in Europe.

250 guests took the opportunity to get first-hand information on how Hydrospider and HHM, together with well-known filling station operators, logistics and transport companies as well as financial institutions, are bringing a first industrial hydrogen ecosystem to life. Among the guests were almost three dozen journalists from Switzerland and abroad.

By 2025, 1600 Hyundai fuel cell electric trucks will be on Swiss roads transporting goods with green hydrogen. Hydrogen is "green" because it is produced from renewable energies with the help of electricity and is therefore environmentally friendly. Switzerland's first plant for the production of hydrogen in commercial operation is currently under construction at the Gösgen hydroelectric power plant. From the end of 2019, Hydrospider AG's 2 MW electrolysis plant will produce hydrogen for the first approximately 50 fuel cell electric trucks to be delivered to Switzerland in 2020.

Alpiq and the production of hydrogen

With hydropower in its DNA, Alpiq has the best prerequisites for the carbon-neutral production of this alternative energy carrier.
