Alpiq has the energy generation of the Emosson storage power station at its disposal

The French company EDF will contribute the whole of the energy share of its 50-percent participation in the Emosson storage power station to the Alpiq Holding Ltd. This is a further strengthening of Alpiq, the leading Swiss energy company with European orientation. Alpiq is the result of a merger of Atel and EOS. The main shareholders of Alpiq Holding Ltd. are a consortium consisting of the EOS Holding and the consortium of Atel's Swiss minority shareholders, each with 31 percent, together with EDF as a strong international partner with 25 percent.

Decision by EDF about industrial contribution

The transaction agreements were signed by Atel and EOS together with a consortium of Swiss minority shareholders in Atel and EDF on 18 December 2008. With this decision, EDF has now defined its industrial contribution to the new company as announced in December 2008.

Alpiq: The company with roots in Switzerland and commitment in Europe In addition to its strong position in Switzerland, Alpiq is active in Europe in the fields of electricity generation and transmission, in sales and in trading as well as in energy services. With 26 sales companies in 29 European countries Alpiq employ a workforce of more than 10,000. In 2007, Atel and EOS achieved a combined turnover of approximately CHF 16 billion and an EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation) of around CHF 1.8 billion. Alpiq is the leading Swiss energy company with European orientation. Around one third of Switzerland's electricity supply is today secured by Alpiq.

The Emosson storage power station Between the towns of Martigny and Chamonix, the Electricité d'Emosson SA operates a storage power station with an output power of 552 MW. The annual output of the power station is around 800 million kWh of electricity. At the heart of Emosson is Switzerland's second largest water reservoir. The 180 meter high arch dam retains 227 million cubic metres of water. The power station was put into service in 1975.
