San Severo gas-fired combined cycle power plant (En Plus S.r.L.)

Through its affiliate En Plus, Alpiq constructed a gas-fired combined cycle power station in San Severo (province of Foggia, Italy) with an electrical capacity of 400 megawatts. Alpiq has a 66.7 percent stake in En Plus with Eviva s.p.A. holding the remaining share, while energy purchase rights are 100% of Alpiq. The plant has been in service since February 2011.

In addition to the power station, a 22 kilometre gas supply pipeline and a 5.5 kilometre 380 kilovolt high-voltage transmission line were constructed. Gas-fired combined cycle power stations are characterised primarily by their high level of flexibility, their rapid availability as well as their high efficiency. San Severo power station boasts a net efficiency of 55 percent. After several upgrades to increase its flexibility, the plant is a top performer in the demanding market of ancillary services. Alpiq Energia Italia is responsible for its operation and maintenance.

The plant in San Severo is a turnkey system delivered by the Italian company Ansaldo Energia. The power station introduced an environmental management system in accordance with the standard UNI EN ISO 14001:2015. The ISO 14001: 2015 certification, which was entrusted to a nationally accredited third-party organisation, guarantees compliance with the prerequisites defined by the standard as well as their correct implementation.

On 20 March 2013, the power plant was certified by Emas (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme). Members of Emas commit to improving their environmental performance and to publishing an environmental statement in which they report on the (direct and indirect) impact on their environment, their environmental performance and environmental targets.

In 2014, the power plant obtained certification in accordance with the ISO 45001:2018 regulation, which mandates the continual improvement of its health and safety management system.

In order to retain its certifications, San Severo is subject to annual inspections to ensure that the conditions of conformity relating to its safety and environmental management systems are maintained.
